The Comparison of International Journal of English Pronunciation Teaching in an EFL Context
Assalamualaikum
Wr.Wb ☺️☺️
Hello readers, welcome back to my site. As you know
before, my lecturer gave me some task to review the International Journal.
Before that, I am not very obsessed with reading, but now my reading lecturer Mrs.
Yuna Tresna Wahyuna always give the direction to her student for reading the
several article and journal to increase the student knowledge.
The reason why I choose this journal because I am very
curious about how the pronunciation of EFL student in another country besides Indonesia and also it's very interesting to learn more specifically about how to
pronounce in English. In the third semester, the Phonetics and Phonology subject
made me
Now, I am going to review both of International
Journal with the same topic. The first International Journal I have been read
is The Learner Perspective on English Pronunciation Teaching in an EFL Context
by Elina Tergujeff from the University of Jyväskylä (Research in Language, 2013,
vol. 11.1; DOI 10.2478/v10015-012-0010-z) and I would like to compare with the
International Journal by Sharif M. Alghazo from Department of Linguistics, University of
Jordan, Amman, Jordan, the title is Advanced EFL Learners’ Beliefs about
Pronunciation Teaching (International Education Studies; Vol. 8, No. 11; 2015
ISSN 1913-9020; E-ISSN 1913-9039; Published by Canadian Center of Science and
Education ).
The aim of both of the Journal is to explore learners’ perceptions and views on
English pronunciation teaching. From the first journal, the participant is from the
student at the public educational system in Finland. The students are 10
participants from Basic Education, Low Education, and Upper Education. Two
students are from Primary Level (aged 10), six students are from Low Secondary
Level (aged 15-16), and two students from Upper Secondary Level (aged 18).
While from the second journal the participant is from college students (aged 21-25). The researcher does research in Finland and Saudi Arabia.
The similarity between the journal includes the students' apprehension on pronunciation and assumed that English is a foreign language (EFL), not a second language (ESL). The method of both researchers use or give the questionnaire to the participants and do the interview. The researcher believes that if the participants don't practice and the teacher not explains briefly, the participants cannot be able to pronounce well in English.
