International Journal Review : LEARNER PERSPECTIVE ON ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION TEACHING IN AN EFL CONTEXT (PART 3)

Hello Readersssss
Welcome back to my site☺️

On part two, I tell you about The Present Study (Reseach) of International Journal: Learner Perspective On English Pronunciation Teaching in an EFL Context. Now, I'm going to tell you about Analysis and Discussion. There are include the Learners' Pronunciation Goals, Pronunciation Exercise in Textbook, Pronunciation Teaching Practices, Pronunciation Models, Amount of Pronunciation Teaching, and Pronunciation Learning.

  • Learners' Pronunciation Goals
According to (Kachru 1985) varieties (e.g. Pihko 1997, Dalton-Puffer et al. 1997),  many learners seem to have negative attitudes towards (their own) non-native and outer circle. Learners' main goals in English Pronunciation is the learners reported fluency and intelligibility. The learners suggested that if they are pronounced/speak in English with does not use the native, it does bother for the other people to hear that sounds while it does not interfere with clarity in pronunciation. In Finland,  It has also been suggested that in English pronunciation teaching in Europe, the use of “a type of International English” as pronunciation model is gaining a foothold (Henderson et al. 2012, Tergujeff 2012b).

  •  Pronunciation exercises in the textbooks
Using textbooks is an important thing for studying English. In this study, students' textbooks were used as stimuli for discussion in interviews by asking them to introduce typical pronunciation exercises in their textbooks. This is not an easy task because it seems that pronunciation is not a topic of frequent textbooks. this textbook reveals a series of pronunciation teaching materials: phonetic training, reading aloud, imitating, rhyming, rules and instructions, awareness raising activities, spelling, dictation, and ear training. In the view of students, the range of pronunciation materials in their EFL textbooks seems to be narrower than that indicated by textbook analysis. Learners mention word stress exercises, where students listen to words and mark stress placements correctly, as a type of exercise that is often done in the junior high school textbook they use. Another type of exercise that is often mentioned is a list of words and expressions (presented in a text box) before the text.
